Microaggressions

Dr. Nadal is one of the leading scholars on the topic of microaggressions, or subtle forms of discrimination towards people of historically marginalized groups. This lecture focuses on the current research on the common microaggressions that occur, discussions on how to navigate microaggressions when people experience them, and ways institutions and groups can prevent or manage microaggressions in the most effective ways. 

LGBTQ Psychology

Dr. Nadal is one of the leading scholars in understanding psychological issues affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people, particularly LGBTQ people of color. This talk focuses on the many issues affecting LGBTQ people - ranging from homophobic and transphobic legislation to microaggressions to historical trauma. He shares his personal experiences from his youth as a way of highlighting ways that people can better advocate for LGBTQ people and help LGBTQ young people live happy and healthy lives. Finally, he describes his own activism within LGBTQ communities, from his work in Queer Studies to the formation of the LGBTQ Scholars of Color National Network.

Filipino American Psychology 

As one of the leading scholars on Filipino American psychology, Dr. Nadal describes the experiences of Filipina/o/x Americans in the United States. Combining humor and academic literature, he reviews topics such as racial and ethnic identity, colonial mentality, intersectional identities, and mental health issues. He also shares personal narratives about his own activism in Filipino American communities, as well as his work with the Filipino American National Historical Society and the Asian American Psychological Association.
